BATAVIA – Details have been released regarding a Saturday evening police action in the area of H.C. Storm School on the city’s west side, which involved police and SWAT team members and went on for more than three hours.

At approximately 6:20 p.m. Aug. 11, Batavia police responded to a call of an armed and despondent man in the wooded area southwest of the school near 305 N. Van Nortwick Ave., Batavia. Police officers secured the scene and requested the assistance of Kane County SWAT. The wooded area was checked and a deceased male subject was discovered.

At this time, the investigation is still ongoing and no additional information is being released.

The Batavia Police Department is attempting to identify and speak with two people who were located in the area when officers first arrived on the scene. The responding officers described them as a male and female, white, walking a medium-size dog. One of the subjects was wearing a yellow shirt. The officers made contact with them while they were walking from the west side of the school to the east side, near the playground.

The Batavia Police Department is in need of additional information from them regarding their observations around the time of this incident and is asking that they come forward and contact the Batavia Police Department directly.
