Methuen police have summoned a regional SWAT team to College Lane where a wanted man has barricaded himself inside the attic of a residence there, Methuen police wrote on social media around 7:32 a.m. Wednesday.

“Happening NOW! Barricaded subject, College Lane #Methuen,’’ police tweeted on its official Twitter account. “Chief asks all to stay away from the area as SWAT arrives and Officers continue to stage.”

The name of the man and the charges he was facing were not immediately available.

Police said they were attempting to arrest him on an outstanding warrant early Wednesday when he “fled to the attic and barricaded” himself inside the home on College Lane.

The SWAT team from the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council is staging at the scene now, police tweeted around 7:35 a.m.
