CALLAWAY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – A man is custody after an intense SWAT standoff with Bay County deputies. According to Sheriff Tommy Ford, deputies arrested Robert Sandvig after he threatened to hurt himself and barricaded himself in a room for four hours.
Deputies say it began around 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon after Sandvig’s mom called police. Sandvig was threatening to kill the family dog.
Soon after, deputies arrived to the home located off Plantation Drive in Callaway. They attempted to talk to Sandvig, but he barricaded himself in a room.
Deputies say Sandvig then fired a total of five shots from a shotgun. Law enforcement on scene cleared the house and contacted SWAT and hostage negotiation teams.
Some neighbors were prevented from getting to their homes for hours as negotiations went on throughout the night. The SWAT situation ended just after 8 p.m. Tuesday night.
Deputies say Sandvig is a felon so he’ll be charged for possessing a firearm. He’ll also be charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
