BULLHEAD CITY — A man shot and killed himself early Wednesday after barricading himself inside his home and shooting at police.
The man’s identity has not been released.
About 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, Bullhead City police were called to the 700 block of Stahlman Drive for a report of a domestic violence incident, said Emily Fromelt, department spokeswoman. When officers responded, a man from inside the residence fired shots toward police. No officers were injured.
The man then barricaded himself inside the residence, Fromelt said. Members of the Bullhead City Police Department’s SWAT team responded and made entry into the home. The man had a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head. No one else was inside the home.
Neighbors reported on social media hearing multiple gunshots, flash bangs and police using a bullhorn to order the man out of the house. Law enforcement diverted traffic for several hours from the 700 block of Stahlman Drive at River Gardens and Roadrunner Drives as the standoff continued.
Animal Care and Welfare officers were called to the scene after one dog was shot with a beanbag by police.
An aggressive dog came at responding officers and less-lethal measures were used against the aggressive animal, Fromelt said. The dog is being treated by a veterinarian in Kingman and is expected to be OK.
ACW officers also removed two other dogs from the home that were taken to the animal shelter waiting for the owner to pick them up. Fromelt said.
