Phillips 66 : SWAT team executes drug raid in Warrensburg

Feb. 16WARRENSBURG — The joint special weapons and tactic team consisting of Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and Warrensburg Police Department members conducted a drug raid that resulted in several arrests.

The raid occurred about 6:30 a.m. Thursday, Sheriff Scott Munsterman said at the scene.

Johnson County leads the investigation with Warrensburg’s assistance at 305 E. Market St., next to the Phillips 66 on North Maguire St.

“It’s an ongoing investigation at this point,” Munsterman said.

The occupants are of college age, he said.

Stephanie Duerr said she witnessed the SWAT raid from the Phillips 66.

“A bunch of unmarked police cars and a tactical vehicle pulled up, a bunch of SWAT team members hanging on the outside of it, like garbage truck men,” she said. “They jump off and go and surround the house.”

Law enforcers entered the house and brought in dogs, Duerr said.

She said a woman she knows witnessed what might have been a robbery at the house about a month ago.

“Two masked guys went running out the back of the house. They had like tried to rob them or something. She heard gunshots and then saw them running out of the house,” Duerr said.

Police Chief Rich Lockhart said there may be as many as five people in custody.

“There’s multiple people,” he said. “It’s a big house, three stories. I believe there are five bedrooms, and then you’ve got the ‘dormers’ upstairs — there’s a whole area up there.”

Law enforcers discovered what appeared to be a “large quantity” of a green leafy substance in the house, Lockhart said.

Confirming whether drugs are present, which then could lead to charges, may take time, Munsterman said.

“There may not be any more information until after the lab results come back,” he said.

Johnson County Ambulance District personnel for the first time went out together with the SWAT team, he said.

“They’ve been part of every SWAT mission; however, they’ve just now started to roll with the team on the armored vehicle,” Munsterman said.
