Police ID 17-Year-Old Fatally Shot In Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO — The El Paso Coroner’s Office identified a juvenile who was shot Wednesday in Colorado Springs. Marshall Aaron Mitschelen, 17, of Colorado Springs, was found dead in a residence around 8:48 a.m. in the 2900 block of Whileaway Circle.

Originally, police were told Mitschelen died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, but further investigation revealed that another 17-year-old male was involved in the shooting. The suspect fled before being questioned by police from the Violent Crimes Section, police said.

Later that day, police got information that the suspect was inside a house in the 4500 block of Enchanted Circle North. Along with K9 dogs and a SWAT team, police surrounded the house and tried to contact the suspect. When police finally entered the house, they found the juvenile was not there.

An arrest warrant has been issued for the arrest of the suspect for felony manslaughter. Because the suspect is a juvenile, police are not revealing his identity. This remains an open and active investigation.

Anyone with information or who is a witness to this investigation is asked to call the Colorado Springs Police Department at (719) 444-7000; or if you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers Tip Line at (719) 634-STOP (7867) or 1-800-222-8477.
