Today it is my pleasure to Welcome author Paige Tyler to HJ!
The book in Paige Tyler’s words:
In my newest release WOLF UNLEASHED (SWAT Series), we get to see how Lacey Barton, veterinarian by occupation, heroine by nature, becomes The One true love for Dallas Police Department SWAT Officer—and werewolf—Alex Trevino. Their story will make you laugh, cry, sigh, and completely fall in love with them.
I’m a dog lover, just like Lacey! In my new book, Wolf Unleashed, Lacey is a veterinarian with a heart of gold who falls in love with Dallas SWAT werewolf, Alex Trevino. She gets thrown into all kinds of crazy situations when her nose leads her into trouble with a bunch of drug-dealing bad guys who also run a dog-fighting ring. Of course, having a SWAT werewolf around always helps out in a situation like that.
I don’t have a werewolf hanging around, but we do have our little fur baby! She’s a mix between a Labrador, a Miniature Pincher (Min Pin), and an Italian Greyhound. She’s about thirty pounds and has the body shape of a greyhound, with really long legs, a slim waist, and a small head. She has the coloring and general disposition of a lab. On top of all that, she’s been shrunk down to much smaller than you would expect for a dog with a greyhound (or Labrador) background, and loves to curl into a tiny ball just like a min pin. She can get all those legs curled up into a ball about the size of a throw pillow. I should know, she sleeps curled up by my feet in bed every night.
Obviously, she’s the cutest thing ever!
But while our fur baby might think she’s the bravest dog on the planet—at least when it comes to the mailman and UPS—the truth is that she’s a tiny dog living in a medium-sized dog’s body. She’ll go bounding across the yard like she’s on a pogo stick, yapping her little head off if she hears a funny noise. But when the kids come to the door during Halloween, she’s right up on the couch beside mommy, wanting me to keep her safe.
So, no, our fur baby isn’t my werewolf inspiration.
But she is my writing companion. During the day, when hubby is at work, she sits right behind me on the back of the couch, looking over my shoulder and making plenty of suggestions on how a werewolf might behave.
“He should be bigger!” she frequently suggests. “And have bigger fangs! And he should growl a lot more!
Okay, maybe she doesn’t actually say those things, but she comes pretty close.
In reality, I use her as my sounding board. I’ll write a section where the hero and heroine meet for the first time with a couple smooth, romantic lines and a little bit of snark. Then I’ll look over my shoulder at her and read her the section.
“Is that a good line?” I’ll ask.
She lifts one eyebrow for no, two for yes. I have to admit, most of the time, it’s no.
“Too cheesy?” I’ll add.
Two eyebrows for sure.
I’ll change the part and run it past her again, letting her keep me on track. While she might not be my wolf inspiration, she has a very good sense of human romance.

SHE BRINGS OUT THE WOLF IN HIM
Lacey Barton can’t deny her crazy attraction to Alex Trevino, but that doesn’t mean she has time for the gorgeous SWAT officer. She’s hell-bent on discovering who’s behind the brutal dogfights sending countless mauled animals to her veterinarian office. The trail leads Lacey to a ring of vicious drug dealers and suddenly she’s in way over her head―right smack in the middle of a SWAT stakeout.
With Lacey in danger, Alex’s wolf side is unleashed. But when she witnesses Alex shift, she’s even more terrified… Now it’s up to Alex to crack the case―and earn back Lacey’s trust and, ultimately, her heart.
