Suspect arrested after woman stabbed, SWAT standoff in Woodruff

SPARTANBURG CO., SC (WSPA) – Deputies have arrested a man accused of stabbing a woman before a SWAT standoff that last several hours in Woodruff.

Deputies responded to Varner Road in Woodruff to assist firefighters with a car crash on Sunday afternoon. When they arrived, deputies found a woman stabbed in the abdomen, causing her to crash.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office says the woman and multiple witnesses identified the attacker who they say entered a home on Varner Road.

Deputies and the SWAT team surrounded the home. Several hours later, SWAT members entered the home but were unable to find the suspect.

Deputies found the suspect, identified as 41-year-old Bobby Ray Brown II of Woodruff, with the help of citizens. Brown was arrested near Miller Road in Woodruff on Sunday night.

The sheriff’s office said Brown is charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

He’s in the Spartanburg County Detention Center under $20,000 bond, according to jail records.

The sheriff’s office says the victim underwent surgery.

“Our thoughts and prayers remain with the victim for her continued recovery from this incident,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
