SWAT team called to Methuen after man wanted for stealing dog barricades himself in an attic

METHUEN, MA (WHDH) – A SWAT team was called to an address in Methuen Wednesday after a man wanted for stealing a dog in Nashua, New Hampshire barricaded himself in an attic when officers attempted to execute an arrest warrant related to a recent break-in, police said.

The suspect, identified as Steve O’Neil, ran from officers on College Lane around 7:30 a.m., Methuen Police Chief Joseph Solomon said. O’Neil was arrested without incident.

Solomon confirmed that O’Neil is the suspect involved in the theft of a dog from a Walgreen’s in Nashua, New Hampshire Sunday.

The owner told 7News she received a call about 36 hours later telling her the dog was at an address in Methuen, where she was reunited with her pet.

Prior to the arrest, heavily armed police officers can be seen surrounding the residence and taking cover behind tactical vehicles.
